Default Rabbit get together...

Well I can add another rabbit to my list on bowkills now... Yesterday evening, i went out to the O'canal again after rabbits and squrriels. It was pretty dead out there for the most part but i managed to stumble across a few cottontails but since those are out of season I can't take those yet. Among the field i was talking about in a previous post, it got flooded out for some reason. I think its just a litte resvoir aftually because of the way the banks are built and the fact that there is a long pipe running into it from the canal itself. From the 'floodlands' (nickname i gave that field) runs little ditch on the way towards the highway. Away from that floodland field there is a large dike that seprates the ditch and another field that isn't used for crops yet but mainly is just high grass/weeds and few large brush here and there. Its kind hard to describe but i'm going to take some pictures so its easier for the reader to get an idea of what i'm talking about. Anyway. There is little footbridge that goes over the little ditch over to the large dike. Squirrels have made holes in it and the hill itself is about 15 feet high. I noticed some jackrabbits close to it on the other side yesterday but wasn't able to get close enough to take a shot. I decided to try this field again but coming from the East. I had a feeling there might be some rabbits within range just on the other side to I duckwalked after passing the footbridge...I just barely looked over the side and saw about 30 rabbits within 15-40 yards from me. Sad to say about 25 or so were cottontails but I noticed a few jackrabbits that was within about 30 yards. I knew once I drew my bow one or more would have spotted me, they would have ran all over the place and spooked the jacks'. Well i was definetly right about that but i stayed focused on that one jackrabbit. I was able to release my shot and hit it in the vital area. After I retrieved my arrow i tried my luck with the other jacks but i never found any. The cottontails were naturally teasing me with shots since I can't take any, yet.

It sounds like you've got the hot rabbit spot. Rabbits are few and far between in my neck of the woods. I think I'd take up bow hunting rabbits if they were that plentiful here.

We've got rabbits, but you have to get in the brush to get them up...... Can't really do it with a bow......

love hunting rabbits, gets me out in the winter.....more so though i like eating rabbits.
heres the best way ive found to cook them.

preheat to 350. and take one of the racks out of the oven. cover it with tin foil, slightly bending up all four sides

debone rabbit, and cut into pieces
chop up a bunch of green peppers and onions
lay pieces of rabbit all over tin foil. spread onions and peppers over the whole thing.
season with whatever you like. i like to sprinkle garlic pepper over everything.
put about 4 or 5 small pats of butter in different places on the rack
completely cover with thick bacon.

cook until rabbit is done, usually 30-45 minutes.

here weve tried a lot of really elabote recipes for rabbit, but this simple one is our favorite.

works well with grouse, pheasant, turkey, etc

The place I work had a rabbit problem when they found out I bow hunt they asked me if I could take care of the problem for them

Nothing much happens at work on the week ends so I take my bow in not only to practice but to do a little rabbit hunting as well

So far I have taken 55 rabbits there and all I have to do is step outside the guard shack
