Bear First Strike XL
I just received a Bear First Strike XL compound bow for free and was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with it. I think its about 10yrs old and would it be still be good to hunt with today? It in excellent condition. I dont think it has ever been shot.

RE: Bear First Strike XL
I had one of the original First Strike compounds by Bear. It was a decent bow. I actually shot it just about as well as most of the bows that have followed it. I think yours may be the newer model with a straighter, more angular riser. They are cast magnesium risers with compression molded limbs (very durable). The draw cycle is pretty smooth, and they are reasonably fast for a '90s bow. They have energy wheels and steel cables. Not a bad bow, and it should serve you well. I also had a Super Strike like the previous poster mentioned. That bow was quieter and a little faster than my First Srike, but it also had a pretty stiff draw, a very late "hump" in the draw cycle. Still shot very well, though. I shot some of my best 3D scores with that bow. Of course, back then I could see a lot better, LOL.
