For practice I say shoot out as far as you can without losing your arrows. For hunting though I'd say keep em as close as you can. Also the newer you are the closer to keep the shots. (under 30, 20 and under even better) If you are having trouble getting closer than 50 yds, work on your hunting skills, not chancing low percentage shots at that distance. Good luck

I guess it all depends what and where your hunting??? To me BowHunting is all about getting them in close as I can! I am switching from a 3 pin sight to a single pin, as I have used the wrong pin on 2 different occasions because of the heat of the moment! Good luck!

Aussie guy hit the nail on the head, shoot 20 arrows from 80 yards then step up to forty, it will build confidence and tighter groups, and both of them together is a good thing to have.

I, like many of the others, like to practice at fairly long range. A good group at distance enables reflection on what was done correctly, the opposite is also true. Also, when shooting at graduated distance you develop the sense of where (distance wise) you are comfortable. I hunt out in the wide open spaces of the west, but I have set my limit to 50 yards.
