NEW Hoyt Ultramag, Please Advice
Hi All !
I'm new in the forum and I'm from México...you have a terrific place here...a lot of users, everyone participates, friendship, etc..
I'm glad to find you, I hope soon we can plan a travel hunting together...
I want to ask you something, a few years ago I'd a Gamegetter Hoyt bow but I'd to sold it for financial reasons and now the things changed and I'm in the posibility to buy a new bow again and return to this addictive sport.
But for my surprise the technology in archery has evolutionate a lot and I'm a little concerning about to choose one.
I was very pleased and comfortable with my old bow (amateur but I enjoyed a lot) thus I was thinking in buy a Hoyt again, but the prices have raised since then and I'm planning to spend between $400-$500usd in the bow alone, plus aiming and rest apart. For my surprise the only Hoyt I can afford with this is a Ultramag ($430 more or less). The next levels of Hoyt have a raiser of machined alluminium and are a couple of hundred dollars expensive...maybe when I have more practice and refresh all the muscles again I'll switch to one of this, but for now I want a very good entry level bow, not that ones you buy in Wal-mart (I don't have anything against Sr. Sam), but I learn to distinguish between amateur bows (for kids, youngs, just to have fun, not take care of them, etc..). Is the bow you lean to a friend, neighbor or girlfriend to shoot !
The next level I call it entry level, is when you practice at least twice a week, you take more serious your sport, buy more equipment, hunt, take very good care of your bow, tune it, shoot with different arrows, etc..and next is mid-level, when you have at least 2 or 3 bows, several years of practice, etc...and for the last when you get pro, you have very expensive bows, train almost every day, breakfast, lunch and dinner archery...well after that, right now i want an entry level bow...hehe
Returning to the point, I was looking for other bows and found that Hoyt has a secondary line called Reflex and looks pretty similar and for the same ammount of money I can buy almost the top of the line of Reflex and here is the question
Wich bow Ultramag of Hoyt or SuperSlam/Buckskin/Grizzly of Reflex ? The Ultramag is entry-level of Hoyt and SS is the second one in Reflex...looks somewhat contradictory, but the guy at the pro shop told me that Ultramag still remaining be better than other three in performance for the quality of its components like carbon fiber limbs vs glass fiber, etc...
I was looking other brands like PSE, Martin and Browning, the Browning from my opinion is too comercial, the PSE and Martin doesn't full my eye completely, so I'm trapped between the two brothers...what're your suggestions ?
Sincerely,
Jose Portillo

RE: NEW Hoyt Ultramag, Please Advice
Welcome to the forums!! Glad to have you, and we look forward to hearing your input!
I shoot the Hoyt Ultramag, and I gotta tell ya, I love it!! When I bought this bow, I too looked at the Reflex line. The only thing I didn't like about the Reflex bows in my price range was the grip. The best advice I can give is to shoot them all, and decide which one you like the best. You would be doing yourself an injustice if you didn't look hard at the reflex line, so give em a shot!

Its been awhile since I thought about comparing the entry level priced Hoyts and the Reflex lineup. I tend to agree with what the shop worker mentioned to you. The Ultramag uses Hoyt's XT2000 limbs. They are a laminated carbon/fiberglass composite that makes them very durable and efficient. It is definitely something to keep in mind when comparing the two bows.

Predatorvsallien, I guess the dealer didn't have any ultrasports to look at? (less $$)
The super slam sure looks and feels good. I'd have him set both up to shoot and then decide. From whatI understand, with the hoyt cam and a half you get 1/2" draw length adjustments, while the reflex slam & a half is only 1" adjustments.
So PAbowhunter, are the ZR-100 limbs on the ultra sport the same limbs that come on the refelx lineup?
