dont know if shiny brass will spook a deer or not...doubt it....but i just didnt want to risk it....and didnt like the looks of something shining like that while im hunting.....i do love the look of the shiny polished brass....the first year i polished mine with cleaner all that time to make it shine

nice group!! my gun likes pretty much the same load....my roundball load was 90gr of 2fg goex a .10 patch n .490 hornaday ball......shot some ragged hole groups with that load..killed 2 groundhogs with it....one at 15yds right in the neck...was walking to my spot and he popped up....stood there freehand and shot him...aimed fro the chest..but it was a tad high that close....shooting a flintlock standing freehand isnt something easy.....the first one i killed was at 45yds..shot it just like a deer through the lungs broadside.....love that gun.....got my sights fixed and im ready to get back to the range after turkey season and trout fishing winds down.....itll be over as soon as it starts....then its groundhog hunting and black powder shooting.....

I shot my doe at 6 yrds this fall and my little buck (120) at 40yrds. I don't wear special camo usually and I just worry about the wind and the scent and try to keep alittle peice of bush between us. The shine from the brass is not enough to worry about in my humble opinion.
Nice rifle and the great thing about a rifle is that you can customize it to match your personality and to be original.
As for custom rifles, I have a few made by my dad and brother, and when push comes to shove they don't kill a deer any deader then a factory rifle (of which I have a few also).

Good luck in your schooling
