done some Shooting today, Finally!
Hello all,
Well the weather has finally got nice enough here in WI for me to get up to my cabin and shooting range. Got out my Lymans Great plains hunter and shot her about 10 times for the fun of it. I was shooting standing up at about 40 yards. My load was TC 275 grain maxi-hunters and 80 grains of ffg Pyrodex RS
Not a bad group considering I wasn't trying that hard for accuracy
.
I did a little posing for the camera
.
I had a good time, and just thought I would share with everyone.
Jerry

Turkey Addict I have the same m/l lyman GPR hunter barrel 50 cal ,I found that the GPR favors goex 3f over pyrodex select.
My load that I tried and shot great was a REAL CONICAL 320 grain bullet and 80 grains of goex 3f and a wad over the powder.
I shot the gun about 10 rounds at the 50 yard target, seem a couple of quick sight ajustments, then put all 5 shots in a 2 to 3 inch group.
The only draw=back on the rifle is the weight a little to heavy to be carrying around all day in the field,I was really thinking in parting with it even thought it a tack driver

gaft@sons has goex for $10.99 a pound, not a bad price even thought you have to pay an extra $20.00 for hazmat shipping .Black is getting harder to find and if you do find it a good price is about $16.00 a pound rder a couple of pounds from gaft@ sons it makes up the difference.

If you're buying real black online, don't mess with 2nd best... buy the Swiss Blackpowder. You will use much less per shot, gain better velocity/energy & keep your bore much cleaner. Read the directions closely cuz this stuff is potent like 777 synthetic powder.
