Look into NEF muzzleloaders. Thay have some good and affordable offerings. They also have combo guns like 12guage/.50 cal. ML, and .243 Win/.50 cal ML.
Or, you can buy their Handirifle (with an SB2 frame) and get additional barrels-- center fire, shotgun, and muzzle loader. Extra barrels range from $42 to $100 each. A starter Handirifle in .223 can be found at Walmart or Gander Mountain for around $180.

Just my opinion, I have a T/C Omega and Oncore 50cal. both have killed deer at 200 plus yds. The load I use is two50gr. and one 30gr. Pyrodex pellets. Hornady 250gr. SST and Remington 209-4 primers. These rifles shot 4" groups at 200yds. Both are very easy to clean. T/C stands behine there rifles 100%. I cracked the stock on my Encore shiped it back, one week later I receaved a new stock, no charge.

hey i love my 50 cal i use on everthing i go after form moose to wild boar. i belive the 50 cal with a patch and ball is better then those sabots because u are not cleaning plasticout of your barrel. i would also recommend loose powder you will burn more of the powder thats in your barrel then pellets.
keep those smokepoles burning

Muzzleloading can be a lot of fun and getting the right rifle for you is part of it. There are 3 basic types, flint, percussion, and in-line. PA has a late deer flint season and it can be a lot of fun getting use to the flint ignition. I have a Traditions deerhunter flint 50 cal and a CVA Firebolt in-line 50 cal, and I love both guns. I have killed 4 does with the flint and 1 with the in-line. I also has other rifiles, 30-06 22's, and a shot gun, but I always spend more time at the range shooting both ML rifles. Working up the right bullet, and best loads. I always love the look on peoples faces when you can hit the target at 100 yards with a flint and open sights, plus the smoke, wow what a treat.

If you can goto a show that has alot of differnt ones. I have a old T/C Renegade .54cal Sidelock. It might not shoot 200 yards, but it can drop a running deer at 100yds. The ren just felt like a part of me. I have been shooting smoke for 20yrs now, and I love it. 1 Shot ..1 kill.. The smokepole to me is the best way (other then my bows) to hunt, Why you say. I'll tell you. You can shoot a animal from 5yards away, but that animal has to be right on top of you to hurt you. 1 Shot thats all you get sometimes. God I love the sport. Good luck in finding you smokepole, I know you'll love it.
