It is wise to put a second shot into a hog if it is still breathing. Went hunting with a guy who shot one with a bow and arrow. The shot was good, but the hog still managed to attack him and chewed up his legs pretty good before it died. He said he required 80 stitches.

21lbs of sausage meat alone!
I think 3 big hogs is out limit! They had so much meat on them, it makes deer hunting a waste of money lol. Great pork chops, roasts and we were able to stuff an entire shoulder into a food saver bag to smoke it later down the road. Pork chops are for dinner tonight.

In all honesty a good sized pig is hard to beat when its time for dinner. If i had a good supply of hogs to kill i would hunt deer far less except for big bucks or cull hunts.
I would be braising some of the fattier cuts for CARNITAS pronto.

Had a lot of fun hunting with Jon, his brother and father.
Jon had just pulled down on that sow when the 40+mph wind blew the drivers side door on my pickup shut with a loud bang. Thankfully, it never spooked the hog.

While butchering the hog, I started cutting up the opposite shoulder where I thought the ball might be trapped. I was right!
The .490" 177gr round ball penetrated both front shoulders, completely breaking the actual round bone and I recovered the ball in the meat.
The recovered weight is 169.6 grains.

This video is a good example of why it's always a good idea to be CERTAIN they are dead.
Note someone says "it's still alive get your gun ready".......looks like they were going to come back for it. It was still "alive", alright lol.
These guys almost killed one another here.......bad tactics.
