Default Barnes TEZ--Jugs

This morning, the Barnes 250g TEZ was shot into them water jugs. As before the powder charge was 50g Blackhorn, the primer was W209, and the range was 25 yard.

The VIDEO

The bullet came out the left side of the second jug, and never was found. Bein's how there were 3 unscathed jugs left, another try at capturing the bullet was made.

The VIDEO

The bullet stayed straight, bounced off the third jug, but left a small hole. The jug retained most of it's water.

Somehow the bullet landed in a kinda bare spot, 5 feet off to the right, so it was found rather quickly.

Surprising I though the Barns would compare better, On a long angle or a big animal or a tuff one like a big boar hog I would take the Lehigh every time so I am glad that what I stocked up on. I just wish Lehigh made a good 41 caliber, lacking that I will have to find some more 41 caliber 210 grain Gold Dots some where.

Well crap! I just bought 3 more packs of the damn 290gr T-EZ's for my .50cal TC barrel. They shoot extremely well at the hot load speeds that barrel prefers. Quite a few folks told me they were very good at penetration. Maybe they will be on bone and organs.

I thought the barnes would do a little better too. Certainly a great bullet either way.

super_hunt, I don't think you have anything to worry about with them. They are excellent at penetration. Just remember, he's only shooting 50gr...

The Lehighs will likely out penetrate most all bullets strictly by design.

Yeah but he only shot at 25 yards so the velocity would have been around 1100 or so. It should have penetrated MUCH better than that. But then again, fluid dynamics can be fickle to say the least. With it opening up like that it probably just dumped all energy quickly while if it was going through hide and bone and such there wouldn't be quite as much hydraulic resistance. Water does have much more surface tension than most actually think it does. The CF bullet penetrated much better because the petals are designed to break off thereby decreasing resistance for the remaining core to punch through.

If you don't want them, send them my way. I'm still searching for a sabot combo to shoot them through the Ultimate accurately long range.

The T-EZ and TMZ are designed to expand down to around 1,000fps. As soon as the bullet opens, more energy is expended as resistance increases. Pretty hard to compare an expanding bullet and penetration, to one that breaks the petals off turning it into a solid.

I've taken well over a couple hundred deer with Barnes and many to 200yds. Even at 200yds, rarely do I recover a bullet.

Only bullet we shoot on deer. I'm not worried about penetration with them. My youngest shot his first nice doe at approx 30 yds with 60gr of BH209. Complete pass thru and one dead doe. Exit would, entrance touched the armpit on other side.

Recovered bullet on another large doe, poked hole on offside, bullet recovered under hide. 100+yds with 70gr BH209. She flipped over backwards and DRT.

Barnes, the MMP Black HPH shot fantastic with them out of my .50cal TC Pro Hunter barrel. Funny thing was, just for giggles, I loaded a couple into the Orange HPH for the .457-458 and I'll be damned if they didn't shoot right dead on with the Blacks.

The Encore platform rifles I used to shoot, shot them excellent with the supplied sabots. Never had to change from the supplied to any other sabot. I sold my last Pro Hunter last year and I'm beginning to wonder why....

I'm shooting an Ultimate Firearms Inc. BP Xpress and 180grs of propellant. (DON'T DO THAT WITH PRODUCTION RIFLES). I've shot them with MMP and also just about every sabot Harvester makes and haven't yet been satisfied with their long range accuracy (300-400yds). BARNES... IS MY FAVORITE BULLET. I'm not through playing........
