OT: Not BP but hunting
Beautiful morning. Birds singing, moon so bright it cast shadows in the woods. Easing down a logging road with my friend we heard Mr. Thunder Chicken gobble a couple hundred yards away. A quick set up with my friend Jim behind me and a decoy off to my left. Jim let out a few soft yelps, he gobbled. A few more yelps and he gobbled again. Then an occasional cluck and he was coming. Gobbling every 15 seconds. Closer, closer. There he is coming straight to the decoy. 45 yds, 40, 35, 30. The red dot on my 20 ga 870 settled on his waddle and boom. Nice mature bird 20ish pounds 9 1/2" beard. I tried to stretch to the magical 10" but couldn't do it. An exciting end to a gorgeous morning.

Very nice job there!! Congratulations. Nothing more exciting then when your talking Tom in for morning coffee and he's out there answering. That's a nice looking bird.
Do you eat the legs? The reason I ask, I shot a lot of turkey in my life and never could stand eating the legs. The drumsticks. Now the breast meat is fantastic. But the drums always turn out tough and kind of nasty tasting to me. Just wondered is all.

I agree, the legs can be tough on any gamebird. If we don't roast the bird whole, my Mrs. usually cooks the legs and wings in a slow cooker until well done and falling off the bone. She then picks all the meat off and makes an awesome turkey pot pie with it.
