Default New CVA Optima's first harvest

Here's a picture of my CVA Optima's first deer. My wife fixed a roast last night and it was delicious.

Nice buck TenMileHunter. Congratulations.

MORE! We want MORE! What load were you shooting? How far was the shot? Where did you hit it? Did the bullet exit? How far did it travel after the shot? We won't be able to sleep until we know this stuff.

Weapon: CVA Optima V2
Distance: 38 yards
Load: 100 Gr. White Hots
Bullet: Hornady 240 gr. XTP
209 Primer: Winchester 777
Neck Shot - Went straight down.
Clear pass through. I may want to rethink my bullet selection. Didn't get the expansion that I had hoped for.
Harvest: Saturday morning 8:10 CST
Weather; overcast with temp about 53 degrees..
Place: Marshall County, Tennessee
What bullet should I use on Whitetail for good expansion and accuracy?

Try some Barnes 250gr or 290gr TEZ or TMZ you may have to shoot them to see what your gun likes. you will like the performance on deer.

To quote the late Jack Oconnor

Exactly what part of dead are you unhappy with?

Seriously it sounds like at the speeds you were pushing that bullet.. the distance and the realitve soft area of the neck you were hitting you would not yeild much expantion with most any bullet under those conditions you described.

The 240 XTP has a pretty Thick Jacket on it compared to the .452 250 XTP. As a General rule I favor the .452 250 XTP and the .452 300 Gr XTP over the 240 XTP for that very reason on medium weight animals like White Tail Deer and Antelope.

I love all the CVA Optima reports coming in. It seems like its been a great season for the CVA camp. I am seeing so many great deer and Elk on this board and other boards harvested with CVA Optimas and Accuras.

I drew first and second blood with my SS Optima Last weekend. I hope to take my Blue Wolf out this weekend and see what it can do.

That .429 XTP in 240gr is a classic in an inline...

Don't judge it on just one kill...

I agree. That's all I shoot and I love them.

Congrats on the buck!
