I have two of the Traditions Woodsman Hawkens. One has a 1-66 twist the other, a flintlock has a 1-48 twist. I find that they like a stronger load, between 80-90 grains of powder. The flintlock is also an excellent .490 round ball shooter with 85 grains of powder.

My old Traditions Woodsman Hawkens is a percussion cap model with the 1-66 twist. All I shoot out of it is roundball.

On my targets. in the corners are pictures of a turkey and a buck's head. They are not that large, maybe three inches across. If the target is close enough as in this one, I like to shoot for the white head of the turkey. This was with my slow twist woodsman hawkens. With roundballs it is a very good shooter.

Default Traditions Hawkin Shots Fired

I went out to visit my grandparents today and finally had the chance to shoot. I don't have any round balls so I raided my inline stash for som TC Cheap shots 240 grs being pushed by 70 grains of Pyrodex P

After the first two shots I adjusted the sight the wrong direction. SHot #6 is in the top right corner.

After shot 7 I swabbed the bore with glass cleaner and must not have gotten it completely dry. In order to get shots 8 and 9 to fire I had to remove the nipple and add aditional powder.
Funny thing is the blade rear sight shifted while cleaning so I have fitted my new peep sight and bore sighted it for a hopeful follow up session next week.

Cayugad, nice shooting and thanks for the tips. I'll try to pick up a box of .490s and some patches this week as next saturday I want to actually shoot for groups instead of just sighting in.
I'm obviously rusty, but I'm suprised it shot that well with the rear sight being so loose. But thats been fixed with a new peep sight.

Cayugad; that gun is a good round ball shooter.
