Recently purchased a CVA Optima 50 cal and have always used maxi balls. Many posts praise power belts.
Maxi-Balls have a reputation for not expanding well in game. The 348 gr. Powerbelt is the one to try-- your manual prohibits the use of any conical over 400 grains.

I shot a doe with a 50 cal. maxiball at a distance of 60 yds. It punched a hole clean through . It was lungshot and didn' t go far. The exit hole was the size of a quarter. Conclusion --The deer died but I since switched to precision bullets . [X(]

Have seen good performance with the 245 gr powerbelts. Barnes MZ in the 250gr are a favorite on our lease. A good go to is the Hornady Mag sabot I think it is #6727 and I am going to try the SST in it. Remember to use a bullet starter on your ramrod that will not mess up the bullet as it is loaded.

Every gun has a preference

Just sighted in my Optima with 2/50gr 777 and 245gr aerotippied Powerbelts and at I have it dial in at 100 yrds. groupoing at 100 yrds was about 3/4in. I let the gun rest andcleaned it and fired 3 mor orunds down range. I put a new target up and put two holes in it the second round passed throught the same hole as the first one and the third round was touching the other hole. I am no set at 1" high at 100. The PB shot great and loaded a whole lot better than any other rounds I used.

I will stick with them and 777 It only took 10 minutes to clean my ML

I took a nice 5x5 elk a few weeks ago using a 348 gr Powerbelt Aero tip. It was only about an 80 yard shot, although at a slight angle, the bullet passed through and lodged against the hide on the opposite side. The bullet had what you could call, textbook perfect expansion. One small piece broke off, other than that it was a full mushroom. When I smacked him behind the shoulder, he side stepped twice and tipped over!!

I know what I' ll be using from this point on.........
