Shot My New Englander Again
Fired my TC New Englander late last week. The load was the 320 grain Maxi Ball over a grease cookie and 100 Grains of Pyrodex RS. Primer was Winchester #11 magnum.
To make a long story short my groups stunk. Best group at 50 yards was about 2 1/4 inches. Reduced the powder load to 80 grains and the groups still stunk. Thought there was something wrong with the sight picture. Today i found at least part of the problem. The rear sight has a shallow v with a small vertical notch. The small vertical notch is obscured by the sight adjustment screw.

never had much luck with the REALs in the 1:28 twist, your groups are still a LOT better than what i get with them. Put them in a 1:32 or 1:48 twist and now you are talkin!
Oops i just noticed you said maxiball., my bad!
Did you try wads with them?

My NewEnglander (1:48) does fair with patched ball, good with Lee REAL (250gr and 320gr), and great with a MMP orange sabot & 350gr .458 bullet.
I usually shoot 80gr of Goex ffg with most of the different projectiles.
