Default Possibles bags

Picked up a huuuge buffalo hide yesterday! Nicely tanned and soft. Plan on making a bunch of possibles bags out of it once i have some time on my hands. Nothing fancy, just the typical work horse bag with a big single compartment and hopefully with buffalo hide shoulder strap.

wouldn't that be kind of heavy? Is the hide split?

No not heavy at all. Im not sure what you mean by split? But its just like you'd take a hide off a deer or elk. They had a beautiful elk hide but it went for to much $$.

Some of the thicker hides, like elk, moose, and bison can be split in two. It reduces weight and provides more square footage of hide. For instance, I wear elk hide moccasins. The sole is full thickness but the sides are split. It makes the more pliable.

Oh i see. Im not sure if it has been or not but its nice and soft. Sides are thick enough that i will have to use a leather hole punch.

Do you have a pattern or are you going to wing it?

Looking forward to seeing the completed bag.

I made one about 40 years a go am still using it with the Hawken and Renegade rifles. One suggestion I would make is for the short starter, I made a tubular carrier about half way up the strap and that has been very convenient.
