Another Old Style Inline
A friend sent me some 465 grain conicals to try out in my .451 Super Safari
I hadn't taken the time to do any shooting since last spring. I just use a sawhorse with a blanket over it for a rest and kneel down to shoot. I know this isn't the best way to wring the best accuracy out of a gun but it's what I got until I build the shooting bench I want. It also is a lot like my hunting conditions where I rest my rifle on the rail of a tree stand. I set the targets up at 75 yards.
I used 3f Goex for my powder and Remington #11 caps.
My first 3 shots were with 75 grains.
Then I tried 80 grains
Then 85
Not as good with the 85 grains but in all fairness the barrel was getting pretty warm. I wasn't stopping at all to let it cool.
Things got dirty of course using this style rifle with real black powder but to be honest the cleanup didn't bother me at all. I listened to some old music, drank some coffee, and thought about hunting.
I got a suspicion that Doc lapped the barrel of this rifle himself. It sure is polished nice.

Great shooting there. And that Super Safari is a great rifle. Also that .451 is one accurate caliber. S deer or elk would not stand a chance with that rifle. Very pretty rifle.
I shoot a 460 grain BS out of my .451 White Model 97 and I use 80 grains of Triple Seven powder and a #11 cap. That thing really shoots well.
