Price check - 45 cal. Hawken?
I found a .45 TC Hawken I have the opportunity to buy. I didn't have the best light to look it over, but from what I can tell it looks to be in pretty good shape. It looks like the wood is in good shape and the bluing is also. I didn't have a light with to check the bore but I would before I bought it if I do. What would you say is a decent price for something like this?

It depends on the asking price which you didn't mention, the selling venue (whether it's a private party or a gun shop) and how minty it is. They can sell for anywhere from $200 to $350 or more. I guess an average price is around $225 - $275 with a median price of about $250.
The flintlocks sell at a slightly higher average price.

I agree with Arctic. $250 would be about average for a standard T/C Hawken in decent condition. By decent I would expect to see a couple nicks and dings from normal use but nothing major. If it was in excellent to mint condition you could expect to pay up to an additional $100 - $150 more. And then there are the special edition models which carry an even higher price tag.
There is one at my gun shop that is selling for $175. The wood is in good shape but the bore is questionable. I tried looking at it tonight with a bore light and it was very dull looking. Not sure it it was surface corrosion or just dusty/dirty.

It's a 45 percussion, in great shape on the outside. Haven't been able to look at the bore yet but I will before I buy it, assuming I can come up with the money. He said he wants $125, I think I could get it for $100.

A .45 TC Hawken will have a 15/16" barrel. Green Mountain makes (or made) some .54 caliber 15/16" drop in barrels for the Hawken, but they are hard to find. .50 caliber 1:70 twist and Long Range Hunter barrels (1:28 twist) are readily available in the $200-$225 range from either Green Mountain, Track of the Wolf or Midway USA. If you want to shoot sabot loads with that Hawken I can tell you both of my .50 LRH barrels shoot great with 250 grain Deep Curls and Harvester short black sabots. I'm sure the .50 1:70 will shoot patched balls very well. But if you can locate a .54 1:70 twist barrel in 15/16" grab it fast.

My local gun shop has a .50 T/C Hawken percussion for $175. The stock and lock are good but I'm not too sure on the bore. I dropped a light down it and it is dull. Not sure if it is surface corrosion or just dust. I didn't see any pitting. If you want, I can take a jag and some patches and swab the bore and get a good look at the condition. If you want it send me a private message and lets see what we can work out.

Thanks for the offer. It's probably going to be a little while before I have the extra money for one. This one I found is from a guy I work with. He said he hasn't shot it in years and isn't in a hurry to sell it, so he'll hang on to it until I can afford it. It's not something I have to have right now so it won't kill me to wait.
