Man this is one of the few times i am glad to be in cali. were not required to wear orange
Builder, after due consideration I can think of only two reasons California does not require orange on public land.

Either;

(1) the uber liberals in Sacramento are hoping to increase the odds that one of those dirty Bambi killing monsters who hunt will shoot another dirty Bambi killing monster instead of a cute innocent animal,

or

(2) it's so unlikely the few people in California who hunt (I think there are nine) will ever be in the same area at the same time that orange just isn't necessary.

I would use safety pins or velcro and attach a blaze orange cloth or vest as what others have said. Heck, you can even give it a good dose of Camp Dry silicon spray and hang it outside to dry for a few days and it will be waterproofed. Then when the season is over you can just take it off.

Good try Semi fact is it isn't necessary. there is no substitute for knowing what your shooting at.when i am out i keep a blaze ball cap attached to my pack. if i am in a area that is really crowded (not often) i sometimes put it on or hang it on a branch,when i am glassing. Ray

Instead they make you wear pink and hold your hunting partners hand just so you blend in better

I don't want a cover. I explained that. I'm in and out of my pack all day. Covers are a pain.
