Default Experimenting

I tried Blachorn 209, Triple Se7en pellets and pyrodex loose today. A bunch of fun but not a bunch of success. I was out of 240 grain XTP's so I substituted with some discontinued 225 grain hollow point Speer's.

I wasn't getting good groups with the ammount of loose Pyrodex I have been trying so I decided to up the charge to 110 grains. It appeared to tighten the group up. But threw the group off to the left.

I was out of Pyrodex Pellets so I thought I would try some different powders. I guess I'll have to buy some more Pellets now.

The beauty of loose is you can fine tune the loads in 5 gr increments. it is also much cheaper to shoot. overall IMHO, it is much better all around..Ray

I'm surprised the BH 209 wasn't more accurate for you. It's the most accurate for the majority who try it.

That's the second time I've tried it with this rifle and even with different loads I can't seem to get it to group. Yet with what is supposed to be the least productive, the Pyrodex Pellets, I get the best results with them in the Pursuit.

Muzzleloaders are funny like that. We all use what works for us. Even if it seems wrong sometimes.

110 grains of loose Pyrodex showed some promise and I intend to give that load another try only with the 240 grain XTP'S next time. I would rather stick with loose if I can get it to work.

Get a trigger job done on that smoker.

I talked to my buddy who said he has worked the trigger on the Traditions and can get them down to a nice 3lb pull.
