Correction top of back or well above in most cases. Ray

Look again, and this is a 100yd zero.

Elk has a 12" kill zone.

My PBR is 175yds.Anything more, which is very unlikely,I just hold high.I have shot targets out to 200,but never a deer past 165.BDC for me would be a PITA.3x9x40 NikoPlex works fine for me.

I do not know where you get 9 to 12" drop.I shoot a 260 Nosler over 115 gr 777/3f.I am 3.5" high at 100,and 3.5" low at 175.Hence my PBR of 175.I do not have a ballistics program,or a chrono.I just put in the range time.

The chart shows a 6" drop from 150 to 200yds.

Top of the kill zone drops it in the center.

To be honest. I doubt i'd take a 200 yd shot with a ML. To be safe i'm setting 150 yds as my limit. A normal crosshair will cover that easily.

The beauty of hunting elk is you have a generous target.

With that stout load they show on that chart, if that is truly what your rifle will do. as i said you still have to hold top of back.using less powder and varous bullets it's even more lol.. like i said practice and see! Ray

I've not used one of these scopes on a muzzle loader, but I've used them on a regular rifle, and I'm not a big fan. For me, I'd prefer to just holdover, and I don't like the look of the reticles. The other thing I've noticed is each load and rifle is different, so it doesn't always match up with the marks like you should. I'm just not a big fan, and the last few scopes I've purchased have all been duplex reticles. I much prefer the duplex, or even better I like mil dots.

My reason for asking was because the rifle I am thinking of getting can be purchased with a ballistic reticle scope. My longest shot at this time would be 160 yards. The range I shoot at is only 100 yards. I think it would be better to get the gun without the scope and put my own on it. Thanks for all the input.

I agree, but I also hunt in moderately wooded areas. Perhaps a ballistic reticle would be ok out in the open.
