Powerbelt Aerolite -Recovery test Part2
No pics yet guys, just spent a couple hours on the range shooting my newphews Wolf and decided to take a few shots into my sand bucket after i filled it up.
First shot i was unable to recover the bullet, not clue where it went in the sand but i couldnt find it.
I decided then to line the front of the bucket with 2" damp news paper left over from my last test. Filled the rest of the bucket with damp sand and fired a couple shots.
First bullet i recovered still had the ballistic tip attached and held fairly thick center retained 287 grains out of 300gr.
Second bullet recovered lost its tip, over expanded greatly and was paper thin in the center. Recovered weight was 275gr Out of 300gr.
After recovering that first bullet, i think if they'd have used a ballistic tip with the threaded shaft like my inserts use, this would be perfect and would not over expand.
Im going outside now to take some pictures of the bullets i recovered.
The Wolf with 100gr Blackhorn209 kept the 300's in an 1 1/4 - 1 1/2" group @ 100 yards. I plan on using the 250s in this rifle mainly.

Nice test. I think they are going to want to re-think the design a bit- those look too over-expanded for my liking. I assume this was with 100 grains BH209? What range was the bucket shot at? If this was a 15 yard impact, then I guess it's not too bad, but if that is a 100 yard impact, then they definitely need to re-work the design a bit IMO.

They still look like they pancake just like most PBs with a hollow point or tip. Take that 300gr upto about 350gr+ with a shallow hp and they might do a bit better. Make it just deep and/or narrow enough to hold the tip.
The 45cal 300gr plats maxed out at about 90-95gr (not bad really) and at 110gr turned into grenades at 100 yards.

If There over expanding at 100 yds, we all know what's going to happen at 25-40 yds.aside from better accuracy there the same old PB,far to expensive for the overall performance you get from them. IMHO shooting a heavier pure lead conical with a shallow hollow point will give far better overall performance and at far less cost. Ray
