Default Punching Paper and Cold Weather

A little time in the past three mornings was used to punch 2 targets with 2 rifles. The rifles were left in the truck loaded over night. They were clean before the first shoot, but were left dirty for the next 2 days. Two shots were taken with each rifle each morning. The load in both rifles was 105g BH209, pushing a 300g Gold Dot, in a short black Harvester sabot, ignited by an STS primer.

The rifles were left in the cold during the trip, and when they were brought up to shoot, they frosted up immediately. It was uncomfortable carrying the target up the hill, because my hands felt like they were burning, holding onto the cold steel frame of the target holder. Shooting was done from the truck with my right elbow on the steering wheel, and the rifles on the window rest.

There appears to be quite a difference in accuracy between the two rifles. Which is which? The red target don't look bad at all. The black one is a little strung out but still not bad.

Oops. Measured 97 yard the first day, and then tried to put the truck in the same ruts each following day.

That is correct. The V1 plug makes a slight 'crush' to the STS. The V2 firing pin bushing was shimmed out with four 0.005" shims, for a total head space reduction of 0.020".

The top target is the top rifle, which is scoped.

The bottom target was made with the peep sight, and i have to squint to change the front sight from looking like an hour glass to a circle.

Purchased some 0.005" shim stock at our local Ace Hardware.

Have a set of what we used to call leather punches, and picked one out that seemed the correct size, and punched out a disc.

Then used the smaller punch to make a smaller disc, and the remaining ring i used 4 of, to shim the firing pin bushing.
