Not too bad. I'm sure we all love black powder smoke,I do.But I ruined the hunt and had to trash the blind.I think ruining the hunt was the worst part of it all.

pluckit

I have to ask this question.

Why do you feel the need to pull the hammer back and pull your set trigger before a shot presents itself?

one time i was hunting, i had been in the stand maybe an hour or two. looked down and opened my breach ( its a quirk) no primer. good thing i never saw a deer, or this story would be way more embarassing. now i make sure i have a primer in as soon as im set up.

To be prepared and avoid any chance of a click.I've hunted with it that way for some 25 years or so and that was the only incident I ever had with it.

To each his own, but it seems like an un-needed danger to me.

Every time I try to whistle to stop a deer I can't get anything but wind to come out,no whistle.I always carry a grunt tube and bleet call to use. They work well for calling in deer also while I've never whistled in a deer.

I can't get a whistle out in that situation either Pluckit. I just say "hey deer" in a normal voice. It usually does the trick.

And when you pull the set trigger on a Hawkins there is a click that could scare a deer away.

I agree that the set trigger on a Hawkin has an click to it, but I can't say that I have ever scared a deer with it. But yea it could happen. But to be honest I haven't used it that much in hunting situations.
