Before you go down that road, let me tell you a story.

I bought the Cabalas carbine after christmas one year and paid $399 for it. I had some xmas money and wanted to get myself something I really wanted.

Now go forward two years and I am at one of the gun auction sites and low and behold there is a carbine just like mine, but not with the same barrel. It had a 1 in 66" twist and I bought it. It is a great gun for PRBs and shoots great.

Now for the best part, I paid only $179 for it. It was new in the box and was being marketed by the original maker, InvestArms. The seller was a gun shop in Florida and was a pleasure to deal with. Don't forget that InvestArms is the maker of the Cabalas carbines.

Now I have seen this gun with the sabot barrel for sale, but can't remember how much it was going for.

My suggestion to you my friend is to cruise the auction sites and you may find a bargain.

Now as to the sighting system, my eyes are not getting any better as I age. I have a Malcolm style scope from Leatherwood. It is a 3x 17" long short scope:

Check them out at this location:

Good luck!

I wonder if they would let you use a period scope like that at a Rondy event... probably not but i wonder????

My eyes are terrible, I mean really terrible... I have gone to the peep at the Rondy events - I thonk I can see them a bit better than regular buckhorn type sights....

Dang! those guns are good looking....

Those photos are from their website. But as soon as my gunsmith gets done with mine, I will post pictures. I am toying witht the idea of putting a full size Malcolm scope on my Pedersoli Sharps Creedmore II. Now that would be a good looking setup!
