With a Ruger Stainless I might hunt deer, but you have to get close. As for hogs, I have no idea.

Cayugad, why the stainless one, can you load it hotter, or does it just produce better results with the same loads as others? I have taken a 100lbs hog with my .45 cal side lock, but it was loaded with 35g. of T7 and a 350 conical. The hog only went about 40 yards and tipped over.

Big Paul
I like the Stainless because it easier to clean. I used 28gr of Pyrodex P and a .457 ball on hogs and it work well. I liked that load for its accuracy. I also use a 220 gr conical which is from a mold custom made for me.

Lee, thanks that was going to be my next question. can you shoot conical from a revolver. What kind of groups can a guy shoot with a good set up like that?

Uberti version of the Remington 1858:

Ruger doesn't make the Old Army anymore. YOu would have to search for one.
