When i drilled out my encore BP to make the .25acp conversion , the drill bit went through like going through butter . I was very surprised and thought it would take longer to drill being SS .

Would this allow the Knight KRB to shoot bh209?

Yes, more than likely but it also would/might produce blow back. But there also might be an answer for that but I have not had time to test it yet...

416 Stainless Steel
A Martensitic free-machining stainless steel which can be hardened by heat treatment to higher strength and hardness levels.
This is a low cost low grade of stainless that can be machined easily if its not hardened.
Does at one point mean they don't any more?
It sure cut awful easy for being hardened. Lee

I believe they are still hardened. These quotes were in reference to my question about the Omega plug...

They are/were from 416ss prehard at Rc 25-32.
But as explained to me hardening has different effects. Hardening to a place around 33 seems to be the norm as if you go harder that that the gas cutting occurs easier and is more significant as the metal is more brital???? i wish I knew more what a metallurgist knows about metal and its reactions to heat and pressure.

The BP's could be made from a different materials and get it to Rc62 and it would not last as long as the current plug so there is more to it than just hardness.
I think another point is that most ML makers were never thinking about us using the real hot primers and high temperature powders in a ML.

It seems ridiculas that you should only expect 100 shots from a Savage vent liner with smokeless and even less when shooting BH.

Actually what I would like to do is get my hands on some ampco like the ampco nipples I have they look like brass but they last longer than any thing else I ever had in nipples. I think it would be a good experiment to make a vent liner out of ampco. Lee

Have you thought about contacting Ampco directly? I think it is actually a bronze alloy.

Been trying to find a contact point so far no luck. Are they still in business?

Mike,
I just could not resist I tried the Teflon tape today it went on very neatly in thought a couple drops of synthetic oil might help it did I put it on after the tape and the tape suck right down. It worked so good that I thought I would try it on the Speed Breach plug that worked good to. I think the carbon is less a problem with the larger channel but I never had much trouble with it any way. Lee

I hope this works Lee. They are a huge company but you never know they might sell some round stock or put you in touch with a distributor.
