Thereason I was toldis because of the way the rifle is held when fired. You want the flat part of that wedge pin in contact with your hand/fingers. Some of the wedge pins are long and stick out some distance past the plates. If you're holding that rifle with the wedge backward and fire it. That part sticking out can kick through your fingers. If you ever hunted in bitter cold, you don't want anything hitting your cold fingers.
I was always told that they go in the other way too Corey. That was the reason they gave me. Now someone told me that on some rifles it does effect the manner the barrel is locked to the stock. But I have not run across that.

Bronko: Now I am wondering why the wedge pin has to go in from the right side??? I really don't think it matters. Semisane, enlighten me please.
Corey: wondering that too.

`Cause they Do, Dammit!!!
So far as I know right to left is pretty much traditional for wedge pins. Though you are probably right that it doesn't really matter. However, the manual for my Great Plains says the following:
*Note: The rear wedge pin is slightly longer than the front wedge and is installed closest to the lock. Both wedges are installed right to left. This is true for right or left hand rifles. Sights are also installed from right to left. Sights are removed from theleft to theright.
Does anyone have a TC and/or CVA sidelock manual?

putting that in right to left is not as much of an bitch to install as left to right. but I still have a little work to do on the lock, I gotta round it out a little from where I re shaped it.

the way its installed is fine. I do mine like that as i have had experiences where my palm has actually started to push the wedge pin out. I feel a lot more comfortable with it installed left to right.
oh and i love the matte finish on that barrel, i bet that cost you and arm and leg to have that done [8D]
