Ready to go
Got my stuff all ready for tomorrow, I want to take a few shots @ 100 yards tomorrow " if the weather is ok" and see how it does with a thicker patch. I am using 80gr RS, .015 patch and a .018 patch as a buffer. Also using a 223gr homecast .530 round balls that i casted up today. This stock will be stripped down in 2 weeks and a new stain/finish will be put on. I will leave the barrel black for now until i learn how to do LMF rust black.
Then monday " supposed to snow thurs-fri-sat" [:@] I will be testing out some 50/50 mix Inserts with a 260gr powerbelt " Powerbelt had a flawed batch come out some years ago in this weight" The 50/50 Insert weighs 11 grains but is much harder material so it will be interesting to see how it does at 20 and 58 yards. Also got to test out those 338gr Platinums @ 100 yards and see how they group.
Lots of things to do and that darned snow!

RE: Ready to go
3 shots @ 100 yards with the .54 Hawken. I will need to experiment with new patches and see what i can come up with. My first shot was dead on but the next 2 drifted to the left. 80gr pyrodex RS, .018 patch as a wad, .015 patch for ball and a .530 round ball.

RE: Ready to go
Tested some custom tip 260gr ( accidental run by powerbelt) with an 11gr 50/50 tip i casted yesterday. Heres a picture of the bullet i recovered at 20 yards into a big box of wet sand. It weighed 268 grains after being shot.
The 2 shots at top were at 50 yards while kneeling down.
Im out of powder so its time to clean and oil them up and get back to work on the kentucky

RE: Ready to go
i can load a .018 patch on a clean bore but once the fouling is there, not a prayer! Patches sides were frayed. these are poor quality patches that im shooting to get rid of. I am going to just start buying bulk pillow ticking and lube myself.
