You guys are a wealth of knowledge. So, might as well shoot regular black powder then, sounds fun. What are these auction sites to watch? What is a good price to pay for a Renegade or Hawken? I appreciate all your time and comments.
Send Semisane $200 for the TC Hawken that he posted here:

http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=3313662

It is down in his neck of the woods. Chap

PS. Remember he is SEMI sane, so be careful, he may charge you $212.22 or something like that.

I would like to get into the traditional style of muzzleloading a little bit. I was wondering what would be a good muzzleloader to start with, powder choices, ball choices, maybe some loading tricks and anything in general I should know as I know little to nothing about the traditional muzzleloaders.
I paid $300 for a TC Hawken Flintlock on Gun Broker from an Army Navy store in Pittsburg. Got it on Gun Broker. In general the TC have better frizzens (they are harder), which causes better sparks, further the TC have lifetime warrany. Therefore if something goes wrong you send it into TC and they fix it. I had the screws come out of the wedge pin holes, they stripped. TC send me a whole new stock AND LOCK. So in essence a new gun except for the barrel. I just bought a Green Mountain barrel for $100, so in essence I had a totally new gun. Another avenue you should consider is to buy a used TC with a ruined barrel (they never clean it) and throw that away and buy a Green Mountain Barrrel, they usually have them on Sale this time of year for 1/2 off. Green Mountain is what all the top shoots shoot, they are known for accuracy. That is my opinion, and what I did.

54cal is definitely the one, I had every cal from 36 to 62 and took deer with them and shot competition with them a 54 is the longest range flattest shooting most accurate at long range and the only one that delivered enough hydrostatic shock to drop deer on the spot with a double lung hit. Try a ticking patch greased with bore butter, a.535 balland 110 gr of Pyrodex RS, that load has done really well for me in all 4 of my 54 cal TC's. Lee

Alleyyooper:
Do they send you pictures of the guns if requested or do you just have to take their word for it?

Excellent deal, excellent people. When I called them about a FL a couple of years ago, they said I could keep it for 4 days, shoot it, clean it and if I didn't like it within the 4 days I could return it for a full refund. They make Williams Gun sites, so they are a very good company and been in business a long time. Also many of their guns are consignment, so you can counter offer, however $150 for a TC Percusison 54 is a super deal. I don't thinkyou can beat it. Call them ans ask if they will put a bore light in the barrel and tell you the condition.

I don't know if they will send you a picture or not. They have that 800 phone number so you can talk to them on their dime.

I have always decided I wanted a gun and searched their sight for one, noted the price and stock number. Drive to a place called Guns Galore in Fenton Mi see what they have on hand and many times end up driving the 20 some miles to Williams to personaly look at the one I saw on the net. They have in several cases excepted a lower offer from me but a couple of times they have not.
I show them my vetrans admit. Id card and they usally give me a law enforcement discount too.

Stuff I have bought new they have always filled out the warrenty paper work for me and sent it in too.
If you buy in the store, you can take a gun right out to the range, trap field, 5 stand or skeet range to try it out before you take it home too. Easy to return that way, if you are not happy.

I kept looking at a Winchester 101, 20 ga for my wife in a hard fitted case. Just couldn't decide if I wanted it for her or not plus the price was down from what they normally sold for. Finally I called one of the sales guys over and asked to have it taken out of the lock up. He told me there was abulge in the one barrel even though I couldn't see it. He grabbed a box of shells off the counter and a couple of ear plug packs and told us to take it back to the skeet range. We didn't buy it as the wife didn't like the way it handled for her. She bought a real nice Charles Daily BC Marco instead.
