Bore Sighter
I was wondering what type of system everyone uses. I just got in my Nikon Omega and T.C. Gorilla grips and plan on installing them on my Genesis. I am doing it in house this time(first time ever) and want to make sure its half way sighted in. All my other guns have been done by a shop and they always seem to be close to on at 50yards.

I use a cheap old Busnell laser bore sighter - works really well for me...

When I mount a new scope I just set theelevation and windage adjustments to the center of their adjustment range. Then I pick up a large cardboard box from behind the WinnDixie on my way to the range and put it out about 15 yards. I take one shot at the center of the box. Then, with the rifle sitting in a rest and the scope centered on my first aim point, I very carefully (and without moving the gun) adjust the cross hairs until they are on the bullet hole. That should put you on paper at 50 yards, and usually about two-inches high on the bull.

Either Semi's or Lemoyne's method will work just fine and requires no tools.
The important thing is to start at close range as stated. You aren't shooting groups, so you can adjust after one shot unless you feel you really flinched.
A bore sighter is useful though, so not a bad investment.

I have used this bore sighting kit for years and it is always with a few inches on paper to zero. Check it out:
