Default Shockwave/SST Scorecard

Directions: Post a BRIEF summary with - bullet weight, powder/charge, MV (if you know it), gun, range of shot, distance deer ran after shot, location of hit, characterization of wound channel damage, blood trail if relevant, and anything else you feel relevant to evaluating bullet performance on the shot.

If the deer is not recovered you can still share this information, but please refrain from guessing where the hit was located as this cannot be confirmed without recovering the animal.

This post will form the official scorecard and I'll update when reports are added. NOTE: IF YOU DO NOT POST THE REPORT IN THIS THREAD, IT WILL NOT BE COUNTED!

Compiled Results:
(Note: Results are separated for each bullet by range < or >/= 100 yards. A note may be added if something significant (like poor impact location) is reported to have affected the results. I am doing this because we are trying to assess the performance of the bullet and shot placement is a large factor).

200gr Shockwave <100 yards --3 DRT, 2 runners (50, 80 yds)
>100 yards -- 7 DRT, 1 runner (50 yds)

250gr Shockwave

300gr BONDED Shockwave <100 yards -- 1 DRT

Recovered bullet reports --
--80 yards thru both shoulders, jacket recovered under offside skin and lead exited in 3 pieces
-- 180 yards thru both shoulders, jacket recovered under offside skin and lead exited thru 1 hole

Shot my biggest Deer to date onfirearms opening day in Missouri. He started off as a 10 pointer, but was broken up from fighting.

250 grain SST/Lock n Load sabot
150 grains T7
T7 primer
CVA Optima Pro
50 Yards
Hit behind the shoulder, good lung hit
Deer dropped, kicked a couple of times, then expired.
Entrance was the size of the bullet, just under the skin it broke three ribs, leaving a roughly three inche hole in the rib cage
Could not find the bullet, but it was not a pass through.

I shot this doe last year with 250gr SST over 115 gr of 777/2fg. Range was just over 120 yds.Deer was quartered to me. The bullet hit just behind her left shoulder, went between ribs and passedthrough both lungs. The bullet hit ribs on exit, smashing 5 and leaving huge hole on exit. The damage to the lungs was very slight and she ran 150 yds before piling up dead. As you can see the bullet expanded nicely, but not until it hit bone on exit. Bullet recovered under hide outside body

Thanks to Cayugad for posting pics

Ive tallied 4 kills w/ 250gr SW so far. All using a Savage 10ML, 40gr imr4759, 2000fps(cronied) 1st 3 were a bonded version SW w/ EZ glide sabot, last was w/ std SW and MMP sabot.

doe 1, 07' reg season, 20 yds, from treestand, entered high in rear of ribs, recovered under the skin, low in far elbow. completely flattened. deer hobbled 20yds and fell down dead.

doe 2,07' reg season ,20 yds, entered right behind shoulder, exited in front of far shoulder, bang flop.

buck ,3rd kill, 07' reg season, center punched ribs at 35yds, broadside, exited, deer ran 30 yds and fell down dead.

buck, 4th kill, 08' ML season (today) hit high in shoulder broadside @ about 90 yds, exited, bangflop, reloaded & shot buck again in brisket quartering while on ground from 30 yds, that bullet did not exit, still in deer.

Deer - 110gr 777/250 gr. Shockwave. Range - 30 yards. Spike buck. Hit - point of shoulder and exited low behind the off side shoulder. Deer traveled 30 yards. I could see the blood trail from the treestand. Turned insides to jelly.

Hog - 110 gr BH209/250 gr. Shockwave. Range 50 yards. 125 lb. hog.Shot - Broadside. Hit - right behind the shoulder and exited behind the off side shoulder. Took out ribs going in and coming out. No blood for the first few yards then it really started to flow. Hog traveled 35 yards. Good damageon the inside.

This bullet has worked flawless for me sofar.

Default RE: Shockwave/SST Scorecard

I am extremely interested in this forum and believe this is exactly what people really want to hear. I hope that manufacturer's reps on this forum are taking note. Can I only ask that we specify if the Shockwave / SST bullet used is Bonded or non-bonded? I am also starting to have a suspicion that people are using bonded bullets on deer and therefore they get a perceived lack of expansion. I am hoping to add a kill to this Shockwave thread in the next day or two.

Also, can someone please tell me what "DRT" stands for?

Thanks.
