Blackhorn 209 and hang fires.....
Hi Guys
I have a Lyman Mustang inline muzzleloader, I love it. I was test shooting some blackhorn powder, 105 powder load with a barnes 250 grain spit fire tipped MZ. I kept getting a slight hesitation between the trigger going off and the powder discharging...am I doing something wrong here??? I used Winchester 209 shotgun primers...should I use CCI 209 primers instead...any insight would be appreciated!! Deer season here in Iowa this weekend. I was able to group within 1 1/2 inches of bullseye, but had one time it didn't light at all and then several hang fires...or hesitation between trigger and firing.

Then I have no idea what to tell you. I never had a problem with BlackHorn going off when I shot Winchester W209. I guess change primers and try a different one.
According to the information Black Horn sent me, Winchester, CCI, Federal, Cheddite, and Remington are good brands. Stay away from Remington Kleenbore, Winchester Triple Se7en, musket caps, #11 caps, CCI inline MZL primers, and Federal Fusion 209 Muzzleloading primers.

So the CCI 209M primers would be ok to try???? I pour the powder in and then put my barnes 250 tipped mz in and tamp it down fairly tight...is that ok???

Right, you need a good tight fitting sabot with the BlackHorn 209. But seat the thing firmly. I wonder if this stuff is not some kind of mild centerfire like powder or center fire powder toned down, but like a center fire needs a firm seal.. The reports for all the shooters are very interesting. The more I hear of Black Horn reports, the more I am liking my Goex. Although never tell Semisane that..

If you have let the carbon build up right in front of the 209 seat between the 209 seat and the touch hole it will cause problems. Not sure about the Mustang but some people have open their touch hole to .035. Lee
