what is best with triple 7
been reading a number of forums. debates over triple 7 came up.
here is one. for this one.
Best primer or cap for triple 7?
From what limited work I have done with triple 7.
I like cci #11 mags over cci 209m's (so far). no crud ring with the #11 mags. not as hot of ignition.

Can't say much myself there corey..But I would have to say
which ever one gives consistent ignition would be the one to use...
Good luck this year on your hunting...So far we have filled 20 tags
for crop damage...But that is with a 7 mag as well..My muzzle
loader hunt will be next week end in PA.with my son..

If conventional wisdom is correct your experience is on line... it is widely held that the "crud ring" is a result of a 'hot" ignition. When i shoot T7 from my side hammers i to use #11 mag caps. When I shoot it from an inline i do use a 209 or a 25acp ignition.
Normally, when shooting an inline I use an old Remington 209 called a 209-4 - they were meant to use ina 410 shot gun. I also use Winchester T7 primers and they work very well also. But here is the kicker when I first started using 209's I Cheddites and they also worked well also and i use that primer in a 12 guage hunting reloads -
I am one of those rare people that does not get the "crud ring' to any great extent no matter which ML I shoot.

Worked with 777 for about three years.Triedthe Remington and Winchester777 primers and they all left crud rings. The plain old Winchester 209 shotgun primer left the least crud.
777 is a powerful and accurate powder. However, IMO, it is as least as dirty as Pyrodex.

small rifle primers in 25ACP conversion. 209s left a crud ring, and #11s in my sidelock would not fire reliably under 30F or so. However I don't think they were #11mags, just regular #11s.
I agree 777 is almost as dirty as pyrodex, but the cleanup is a lot easier.

I've tried these primers with 777, and I'm putting them in the order of LEAST amount of crud ring to MOST crud ring and fouling issues:
1. Vari-flame conversion system (with small pistol primers)
2. 777 primers
3. Federal 209A
4. Remington Kleenbore
The vari-flames had the least amount of fouling and crud ring, but I stopped using them because I was getting at least 1 hang-fire for every 3 times I pulled the trigger- not good.
I currently use 777 primers, and I'm pretty happy with them, other than the price. However, I would say that I still get the "crud ring" to a certain extent- I just swab between shots and it takes care of the problem.
