Default O/T Tonights hunt

I hope it is ok for me to post this stuff
It's not about Black Powder,I just like sharing with my friends.

I let two does walk tonight because they had a NICE buck ghosting them
The does fed 20 yards from me for fifteen minutes looking back every now and then.
I was waiting for the buck.
He never came in and they moved off.

An old man once told me
"When you have a LEGAL deer in shooting range,SHOOT"

Here is my kill for tonight
4'6" Diamondback. 9 rattles and 1 button
I shot him with my 38 that I keep in my back pocket.
I shot him in the body so I can mount him.

I just got permission to buy snake boots,Imagine that

Lets be careful out there

WOW!!! I would have a pair of snake boots as well. And be real careful where I sat down.. Actually I like snakes. I know a lot of people find them less than desirable, I on the other hand find them fascinating. Although I don't have to deal with snakes that can kill me.

Man, that's a big`un Scott.

I'm with Dave. I like `em and am fascinated by them.

When I was in my teens a buddy and I did a lot of snake hunting. We sold them to a snake farm a little North of New Orleans (now a $300,000 home housing development). The guy we sold them to resold them to schools and labs. That ol` boy who bought them had a slick system. He bought the skinny little ones like ribbon snakes, garters, greens, etc. by the pound, and the short heavy ones like moccasins and red bellied water snakes by the foot. Still, we made a few bucks selling them to him.

Sometimes ever moccasins kill folks:

The military said Wednesday the autopsy of 20-year-old Pfc. Norman M. Murburg of Dade City, Fla., ruled out heat or dehydration as a cause of death. Murburg was bitten multiple times while training at the Hoffman training area, near Fort Bragg's Camp Mackall.Soldiers began searching for Murburg when he didn't return from the exercise. His body was found June 10. Authorities met with Murburg's family to explain the autopsy results.Maj. Gen. Thomas Csrnko, who commands the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center, said the death reinforces the dangerous training for Green Beret candidates.

Wouldn't mind seeing one that big. Don't know if my heart could take it though!!! I spent 16 months at Ft. Bragg, '70-'71, when in the army. Didn' see any snakes that I remember!!

We do actually have rattlesnakes in Wisconsin. In fact the DNR planted Timber Rattlesnakes we were told in the northern forests. They want to bring the forest back to the way it was a couple hundred years ago. Many of the people up here are not real happy about the Timber Rattlesnake Plants, but like I told them.. your chance of seeing one unless you go where they were planted is next to nothing.

Now in the southern bluffs and in counties along the mississippi river there is supposed to be snakes up in the bluffs. When I was a kid, my folks claim I came across a Rattlesnake when we were hiking the bluffs, but I do not remember it.

Ya! we have Diamond Backs here also, butin the warm canyons and especially in the basalt rock formations. Thank gosh! by the time I get around to hunting in those areas it is cold and they are doing their thing. Sure am glad they are a cold blooded creature.

One thing that reminds us a lot is that we have a plant called a "Golden Pea" that grows out there in the wild and in the fall when the pod drys and the wind blows - you get a pretty erie sensation when you hear them rattle.
