Breach Plug Cleaning

RE: Breach Plug Cleaning
After shooting BlackHorn 209 or any powder for that matter,I find that the breech plug grease is every where. So I dip a patch in solvent and wipe the plug off as much as possible. I then take some Q-tips, dip them as well and clean out the insides of the breech plug. After all that I like to take them to the sink. With dish soap and an old tooth brush, I get hot water running, submerge the plug, pour a little soap on it, and brush the threads real clean. After I have every trace of fowling off, I rinse it. Then back for another solvent patch and finally dry patch it. If you have access to an air compressor as I do, I like to blow the plug dry and the hole clear.

i chunk the breech plug in Windex with vinegar or diluted clear vinegar and leave if for a few minutes. Then itake a toothbrush and clean off the threads and outside of the plug. For cleaning the flashhole, pipe cleanerswork usually well. Sometimes itis good to use a drill bit turned by hand to get the crud out of theflash channel, followed by thepipe cleaners. Make sure that the small flash hole on the breech end of the plug is clear.

For the Triumph which has a light coat of synthic oil to start with I just wipe it with a rag ,wipe the end exposed to the powder with Hoppes #9 and use a AA powered battery screw driver with an 1/8 inch drill to clean the carbon check the flash hole to be sure its clear if not I have a hat pin that just fits it with a squared off end. A light coat of synthtic oil on the threads and rings and back in. Lee

I do the windex thing also - but I use the Blue stuff with Ammonia - it strips to the metal a little easier than vinegar, but lately I have been using ZEP Citrus Orange cleaner.
I really thought, from a previous experiance and listening to others talkabout it, that I might have some problem cleaning the Knight BP yesterday. Your question just reminded that it was still soaking... just ran it through the some fresh hot water and with a Q tip and a wire brush - it is clean. I did not see or find any of the hard carbon that others have spoke of. I did have the carbon in the White - it was really tough. When I shot it from the Omega, I was using a 25 ACP breech plug and did not notice any ill effects there either.
