you shoud not use ANY of the cleaners that are for black powder or subs.alcohol,hoppes#9,breakfree clp are all good.i've enen used wd/40 with good results.85-90 gr should be close........karl

I use Hoppes #9, but there are others out out. Anything you would use to clean your centerfire rifles works for BH209. As stated, don't use blackpowder cleaners or lubes. If you want to protect it for storage, just use Remoil or other petroleum based protectants. Just remember to clean the barrel after storage with alcohol and pop a few caps to clean out the residual oil

Also, BH is bad about gunking up the breechplug. After each shooting session, you need to ream out the back channel of the breechplug with a 1/8 inch drill (hand turned). That size works well for an Omega. Other rifles can use other size drills.

BH is maybe 3-5% more powerful than 777 so you can lower the charge a little. I use 90 gr with a 350 gr Hornady FPB for my elk load. I would start at 90 gr then 95, 100......... Anything between 90 and 110 should be fine. Chose the one most accurate. However, 90 is more than enough, and it is expensive! So you can afford to shoot more at lower charges.

BH is a" smokeless" powder with smoke added.if you happen to live in a state like Utah,they don't allow nitro cellulose based powders during the muzzle loader season.i am sure BH added smoke to thier product to try get around the laws in a lot of states.seems everyone who has tried it really likes it performance and ease of cleaning.
