Default what barnes for my master hunter

what longer range bullet will shoot good in my master hunter. Knight gave me a target 100yds that was 1.25" with 250 mz's and 120gr 777.
i don't consider the mz a long range bullet due to the big nasty hole that makes it so good at, in my opinion, 125yds and less.
I've got 3 rifles I'm trying to figure out but i don't know if i should even worry about wasting any bullets and such till blackhorn209 comes out. that may change everything.

IMO, dont get sold on that new powder just yet. I think it will be just another one of those products that the suckers will buy into. Kind of like all the New and better Muzzleloader 209 primers.

The Barnes Expanders come in 250 & 300 grain. I would bet either of them would shoot well with a good stiff load. And that would be all the rifle you would need for about anything you want to hunt.

How long range do you need/want to go? I bet the mz expander will stay under 4" at 200. The spitfire is a narrow hp boat tail, looks like a match bullet. Should shoot very well farther out, haven't tried it. Sabot fit will be the key to those, if the supplied sabots dont suit you, you are screwed. Then there are the 45/70 bullets. The heavier bullets will do alot better farther out, I have no clue why everyone jumped on the light bullet bandwagon. The heavy bullets dont needas muchwindageas the 250g bullets, and they carry alot more energy downrange.

i'm looking at 200yds max. and i all honesty that will be on a real extreme occasion. I'd just like to know that i can do it if i need to. I like the spitfires i have used them, but i would think that the tmz would be better yet with a poly tip covering a huge hole would have better areodynamics and open up real nasty and easy like the mz.
From alot of reading and researching, it sounds to me like the 300gr. bullet is the better long range bullet. it will have less drop and hit harder due to it's higher BC.

300g SSTis a good shooting cheap alternative.Or atleast so I am told, I aint figured them to under 1 1/2" yet. Thats just if you wanta shiny pointy tip. Really, out to 200 yds the bc of the bullet doesn't really matter that much. Maybe 2" of difference at most, with a pointed tip sst vs. the ugly old xtp. The difference really doesnt show up untill you go past 200yds, when the wind and the drop become problems real fast.

Here is the various Barnes bullets and their BC for 50 cal MLer:

Barnes #45105 275g XPB BC of .141, usiing HPH12
Barnes Expander MZ 300g #45131 BC .207, using HPH12
Barnes Origonal 300g #457010 Spitzer SP BC .291, using MMP Orange
Barnes X-bullet 300g XFN 45832 BC .204, using MMP Orange
Barnes X-bullet 300g FB 45802 BC .235, using MMP Orange

I just shot the Barnes Origonal with a BC of .291, that beats a ShockWave and has plenty of energy. I have shot Crushed Rib, MMP Orange and 3 Petal EZ with Barnes Origonals out of my Savage, and the CR did very well with 3 touching and about a 1.25" group. The Orange MMP were very loose, but they can be tighten up by kurling with a file. Any of the Barnes bullets is good.Look here for some high BC bullets that I have tried in my Savage:
