i done a little shooting monday with some 451. xtp fmj. these things fly so stright you can stack bullets. i started with 70grs of 777 from 50 yards out to 100 but after that they ran out of gas and started dropping. so i tried the 150 gr load just to see what would happen. well after about ten shots at differen't ranges and a couple cleanings i tried some long range shots, at 150 yards they fell into the same hole at 200 yardsthe pattern opened up a few inchesat 250 same thing then i really let some air out, a little over 300 yards i was still on paper. at 150yds it dropped 12 inches, at 200 18yds, at 250 i was 34 below and the 300 yd shot dropped right at 54 inches, i shot 5 times at 300 yards with a clean barrel without swabing the first 2 were dead on but the third missed the paper by 2 to 3 inches and the 4 and 5 missed the plywood but i think it was me pulling, to much shooting. i tried some of the 300gr softpoints i have for hog hunting just to see if i could hit the plywood at 300 yds without cleaning no luck. i was using the 777 powder,black mmp sabots xtp bullets and cci primers out of a z5 omega and a shooting vise. i filled a old plastic 5 gal. bucket with creek water and set it behind the plywood targetand hit it at 300 yds. the bullet wentthrough the wood andinto the bucket full of water exploding it into a bunch of parts . the entry holeinto the bucket was a perfect round hole but it didn't hit the other side of the bucket andi couldn't find it in the dirt pile. after reading the post the other day about the 3 deer with one shot made me do this, just for the record muzzle load bullets still pack one heck of a punch even at long ranges so make sure of the background when hunting.the hollow point xtp's i tried at 300 yds just can't match the accuracy of the full metal jackets in the same weight. anyone else ever try the fmj at thetargetrange.

I must be missing something, I thought XTP means Extreme Terminal Preformance and FmJ means Full Metal Jacket I do not believe I ever heard of an XTPFMJ and I thought all the Hornady bullets were shown on this page. Am I going to learn something new here?

I'm kind of confused, too.
Do you mean they are acopper jacketed hollow point with no lead exposed?

Hornady does makeFMJ pistol bullets. Some of them are called HAP (Hornady Action Pistol) bullets and they do not have any exposed lead or expansion slots. They are designed for use in semi-auto pistols. Would not even think of using one on deer-little or no expansion.

I think they are called the Hornady XTP HP and the copper runs all the way around the nose and into the hollow point. Its been a while since I shot them. I always thought they'd make a good bullet. I think it was Sabotloader that suggested them to me, but I could be wrong. He also suggested Speer to me... and Nosler.

sabotloader, did you happen to notice the 10mm 200gr HAP it says its a XTP with the skives and canalure removed, and I notice the jackett goes a hair higher on the meplate. Do you suppose it would be good for the 2550 to 2600 with Blackhorn 209? It should be a bit slower to open than the XTP. Lee

You know I looked at it, but I guess I dismissed it because I the think the diameter-to length-to weight ratios are so far out of line... For some reason I think I need longer bullets to shoot them really effectivly. The 10mm 200 grain is an example that for me looks right... I bought some 200 grain .451 Speer Gold Dots and could not them to shoot the way i wanted either..

Did I send you any of them to try?

Where did you find the bullet you are asking about?

sabotloaderThe 10mm 200gr Hap is a duplicate of the 10mm 200gr except that they removed the Skives and the canalure and the jacke goes a bit more up the me[late because of that. Lee
