Well,I was in a sporting goods store one day a few
years ago and a guy came in and said,he needed
a can of powder..Didn't say what for or what kind.
The guy behind the counter reached up and got a can
of 3031 and told the guy it was a good choice..

I asked the guy what he was loading and he said a
muzzleloader..Damn,I thought..I told him he needed
black powder and he said he thought all powder was
black..The guy running the shop should have been
smart enough to ask what he needed it for, etc.

I'm glad I was there to save this guys a$$ or eyes..

I ofter wonder who would have been to fault if he had
bought the 3031 and got hurt or hurt someone else..
This is a true story...Happened in a shop in PA.
That right there is just plain scary, but I believe it. It's amazing the ignorance some folks display. Not muzzleloader related, but I was at the counter of a local gun shop a while back and a guy comes in, looks at thebullet selections behind the counterand asks for a box of 7-08 cartidges. My friend behind the counter hands him the box, he takes one out, looks the cartridge over and then pays for them. He then starts asking questions about the recoil with these bullets. Long story short, the guy was going to try shooting them out of arifle chambered for 7MM Remington Magnum! His reason being that the"kick" with the magnum bullets was to much, so he figured the shorter cased 7mm-08 wouldkick less. When I heard that, I just smiled atmy buddy behind the counter and went over to look at a hand gun while hetalked with the guy. Heended up refunding the guys moneyandtook the bullets back.

Letting them photograph it and put it in the paper at least made a good object lesson. The guy gets a trip to the hospital, a bucket full of busted gun parts and a reputation out of the deal, but seeing the aftermath might open some other idiot's eyes and keep him from doing the same.
