.54cal patch For .440 RB
Lately ive stopped buying correct sized patches for the .440 ".45cal" and have been using patches sized for .54cals. I just loaded one up tonight and the thought finally hit me to go and take the excess patching material and fold it over the ball to protect the face of the roundball while loading. I loaded one up in a tight fitting speedloader, pushed it down with my jag that i use for RB and pushed the load back out and found no flatmarks or scuffs on the RB. I figured that it would help with accuracy due to no flats being pressed into the face of the ball. The extra material kind of acted as an absorber. Has anyone else done this? Im going shooting tomorrow and plan on doing this with 3 shots in a row and then trying it without the material being folded over.

When I set a ball down the muzzle I have experimented with setting them just a little deeper before cutting the patch away. Then I fold the patch down and seat it. All I found was it makes the patch leave the ball faster out of the barrel.
