Starter Black Powder Gun
I'm just starting to hunt during the Flintlock Season in Penna. I'm new to the back powder gunas and I'm looking for some input, on what kind of flintlock I should purchase. I have around $200 to spend and have no idea what kind, make or style to buy. Please offer as much advice as possible...thanks...Jim Thomas

Unlees you get a used bargain from someone, you cannot purchase a decent flintlock for $200.00. Anything that cheap will have a lock that won't consistently fire the priming charge. About the cheapest flintlock I would consider is the Lyman Great Plains rifle.

If you watch Auctionarms.com and Gunbroker.com you may find a good deal on a Lyman Great Plains Rifle in flint. Midsouth has new ones for about $300 delivered. I think that's about as low as the price gets for a decent flintlock.
