Max Load?
what is max load for .490 RB kentucky -pyro? I thought specs max about 80-100gr 2FF. I'm using up pyro 3FFF and max 70 gr? dont want to blow pretty face off but want max range - hope to be able to reach at least 150 yds plinking or hunt hogs and 200 yds for shoot over water for fun thanks!

If this is a CVA or Tradition's Kentucky rifle I think the max 2f load is 110 grains of powder. Shooting 3f grade powder like Pyrodex P cut that back to 100 grains and no more. As for shooting 150 yards with a patched roundball... for fun you will have a great time. Don't expect to hit too much but you will have a good time. I like to limit a .490 roundball when HUNTING to around 100 yards unless I have practiced a lot and can place that shot each and every time at a further distance.

You better get a real good brand in a 54 cal. if you want long range. Even then after working with it and having a good custom made hawken with a 35.5 inch barrel it is hard too keep a good group past 180 yds. Lee
