Default U-Mag gets one...

I got lucky this morning and walkedinto a whitetail buck. He was75 yardout, uphill and quartered to me. When I first saw him I was not sure he was a buck.. it was just getting light and he was behind some young grand-fir re-growth. I really wanted to get the glasses out to look but i was afraid of the undo movement soI raised the rifle and dropped the scope on him - confirmed "buck" - slid the safety off and settled the scope in justwhat I thought was right behind his left front shoulder. I was shooting off-hand and felt I had a good hold so I pulled the trigger. The next part is the part I HATE - the wind was blowing in my face so when the gun goes off all I get to see is smoke - smoke and more smoke. I have no idea if I hit the buckI did not get to see the animals reaction - I HATE that... When the smoke cleared enough all I could see was several deermoving away from me tails high and waving good by... I have no idea which one I shot at, I have no idea if he is going with them or whether i might have got a bang flop - I really doubted that because he saw me move jst before the shot so his flight response was already in thereaction channels.

I decided I was in no hurry - I either got him or he was long gone... so I reloaded (all the time hating the smoke) picked out a couple of land marks where I thought he was - made my way up there. NO ANIMALnow you, well I begin to wonder... made a 10' looking for the shot spot but I did find blood - a very good spot on it on a piece of white birch laying on the ground... thank you for that. Just folled the blood trail up the hill about 50 yards and therehe be...

I was not happy with the shot placement butI really happy for the performance of thoseNoslers...

Congrats good job! Nice looking deer.

Is that a tag I see on the 4 wheeler? I never knew any states had atv tags? Here in MD you can not drive an atv on the road.

Nice deer there Sabotloader. Those Noslers really work for you. Actually it looks like the shot placement was where it had to be. It was one of those shots where if he was in flight mode he was going to run. It looks like you had a really fantasticblood trail.

No wonder you spotted that rack. That thing's rackreally stuck up there in the air. But you know, if you would have been shooting a conical bullet it would have never run away... Just kidding of course. Again, congratulations.

As for the ATV license, in Wisconsin we have to get a new license every two years. We have a sticker that goes on the side of the gas tank. No license means you can not ride on the public trails. So unless you have a lot of private land to play on, you have to license the ATV.

it really wasn't a bad day for game... on the way out we drove up on ma Moose with twin calves, then down by the campground Turkeys... that re-opens on the 21st.... but so does late season cow elk -> turkeys will have to wait...

corey012778

Here we have to have a lic & tag to ride an ATV on country/county roads/fs roadsand in a lot of towns on public paved roads. Can not or should not ride on Highways... We also have got to have an "off-road" sticker to go off road on trails... The "off-road" sticker is just above the plate - but it is green this year so it is hard to see...
