Default ooohhh flash back of last centerfire season

I was setting in the living room, heard a crash. I went to check it, all my guns fell over. checked all of them, looks like they all hit on the scopes including my ML. That scope was on my 30 -06 last year and it got droped on the scope LAST YEAR. One week until opening of early ML here in VA. I am in crunch time. I am going out tuesday and doing my final tuning on the ml.

I am must worried about the scope on my ML it is a 10+ year old tasco. I am not as worried about the other two even thou they are tasco as well, I just got them this year. Bucksight and pronghorn, I can't remember which is on which gun.

If the 10+ year old tasco craps out on me, should take one of the other scope with me and switch them out if it is or am I just get worring about nothing?

it fell hard, I heard over the tv that is only 3 1/2 feet from me and the bed room is 10 feet from the door. And buying a high end scope is not an option.

No, leave your open sights on and shoot open sights and have it sighed in with them, most shots are less then 100 and the first year I was into MLing I shot with open sights. I got 5 or 6 deer with open sights the first year. Open sights work good. Another option is to have an extra gun (you will get to there in a year or 2).

It is for situations just like this that one of those optical bore-sighter collimators can prove invaluable. What you do is check the exact spots on the grid that your reticles are pointing at just after you have each gun zeroed the way you want it. You make a record of this spot in the notes you keep on each gun's data. Then when something happens like this, it is a simple matter to check the scope to see if it has been moved from where it was pointed when you recorded the information. If it has, you can crank the adjustments and put the reticle back where it should be. If later you get a chance to fire a shot to inspire confidence, do so. But it is probably not necessary, as long as the "accident" didn't make the mounting system loosen up!

Where was your wife at the time of this event - and can she prove it?

Scopes are a lot more resistant to bumps then people give them credit. Although that is not to say a fall can not knock them out of line. For now, I would hunt with them. If you get a chance, fire a few shots and see where they are hitting, prior to that monster buck walking in front of you. (of course this is a good reason if you get buck fever and blow the shot) If you really suspect they are off, then remove the scope and hunt with open sights. Putting a different scope from a different rifle on, would be the worst thing you could do for accuracy as you would have no idea where that scope was centered.

When I had my scope mounted on my White Ultra Mag, I told the gun smith to take the sights off it. He kind of stared at me and finally said, what if your in the middle of no where and you drop the rifle and break the scope. I told him I would have a back up scope. He then said, yes, but if the open sights are on and true, you can pull the damaged scope, hunt the rest of the day, and then fix the problem at a later time. He then told me of an experience a friend and him had out west elk hunting, similar to the same situation.

Things like this always seem to happen right before hunting season starts.. Wait until you drive to your hunting stand and discover you forgot your cartridges or powder horn... My old hunting partner did that one to me twice. We finally had a standing joke. I'd pick him up for the hunt and go though a check list with him.. gun, knife, license, tag, bullets, lunch...

Good luck to you this coming season.

she was not home, she dropped it the first time when it was on my 30 -06, I was surprised that it was good when I sighted in on my ML. and for open sights, when I bought my USAK the former owner removed them. I have not got around to getting some yet, could not justfy spending $40 on a gun I pay $40 for, but I just found a reason why to do buy them.

oh yeah, I just found out I was wrong on my opening date on ML season, I got to the 10th of nov to get everything fixxed, VA regs. are confusing.

I left it where it layed when it fell, looked where it was laying and was not as bad as I thought it was. checked the mount all the screws, tight all the around. looked on the barrel, it took the worst of it.

still going to the range on tuesday, do my final check and a little bit of load testing. I got some 230gr with the tc sure fires sabots I bought. working from 70 grs to 85 grs of pyrodex p. ok not really load testing more like plinking with them.
