Storing ML until next season

Storing ML until next season
Don't kill me for what i'm about to say guys but ML season is done in Georgia & it's time for me to break out my 270 WSM (don't hate me, i'm still a bigtime ML fan) for general gun. My question is, what is the best way to store my ML until next season? I cleaned it after my last hunt but was wondering what I should do before I store it. I've heard that I should run a few patches of bore butter, oil and other stuff down the barrel etc... and also should I store it with the brach plug removed? Oh, I almost forgot, I have a CVA Optima. Thanks alot guys & good luck this season.

I personally am going to clean it mine real good. Oil it up with regular gun oil and keep the breech plug out. I think bore butter is a good lubricant to use during the season. But regular gun oil is better for long storage.

I personally would pull the rifle apart. Soak the breech plug area in hot soapy water for about 30 minutes, Use your breech plug brush " .54cal bore brush works perfect" resoak it again and then use a mop to dry it out. Grease breech plug, screw it in like you normally do " finger tight", Run a wet patch of rem oil down the bore a few times, let dry for a few minutes and then use two dry patches to mop up the excess oil. Clean the action/frame good too.
Pretty much your normal cleaning job, but spend more time on it and pay attention to areas that you may over look.

If you do store it with the breech plug removed, a trick to keep it all together is, put the loose parts in a ziplock baggie. Punch a hole in the baggie and thread a string through the hole. Now tie that to the trigger guard. next year, when you get ready to use it again, you will not be searching for parts and scratching your head wondering who took them.. like I always used to do.

give everything a liberal coating of gun oil. check it again in a couple months. also be careful of storing metal things in zip lock bags.things need to breathe. rust can occur oiled or not. i love those silicon socks too.

cayugad,Why do you recommend removing the breach plug? It is some thing I have never done,I clean them good grese the breach plug with breach plug grease and the rest with rig. At any one time 8 to 10 of my 14 are in storage. Lee
