xtp without a sabot in my 45?
I was just messing around and i was curious how a 300 grain XTP would do in .451", in my deer creek .45? I have a .452" xtp but its way to tight to even try to push down the bore. Anyone ever experimented with the idea?

The copper outside might not be the best. Soft lead would work better. Now if that was a .451 pure lead bullet you might get it down the barrel. But I really do not think it would shoot too well. I'd stick with the kind of bullets the rifle was made for.

Usually if a hard bullet will fit down the bore it will likely not expand enough to grab the rifling so velocity and accuracy will suffer. As mentioned the bullets need to be soft enough that when the charge goes off it accelerates the base of the bullet faster than the tip resulting in swelling up the bullet enough to fill the rifling grooves.

White shooters generally shoot PURE lead conicals, not jacketed. I know of no White owner shooting full bore JACKETED bullets.
And I recall the testing done and reported herebut can't remember who did the tests. ??

A real problem with shooting a bullet that doesn't expand to fill the grooves is that flame from the charge will blow past the bulletthrough the grooves. Enough shots like that will actually damage the barrel - known as "flame cutting".

Very interesting! And hes using a Douglas barrel too! Thanks for the website, that was good. Now i will have to shop around and look for an all lead bullet in .450 or .451 and see what i can do.
