markings
Just wanted to know what would have a great plains rifle
look like in 1830"s I know they would have been browned
and were made in St.Louise Mo.but what kind of markings
on them I am thinking about defarbing mine

First off, welcome to the forum. It's good to have you here.
As for your question.. that's kind of hard to judge. When we think of a plains rifle, there was no set make or model of rifle that was carried on the plains. If we want to judge the rifle by some of the early Hawkins rifles from St. Louis then we have a starting point.
From the reading I have done on the movement west, some men even carried muskets, shotguns, and small caliber rifles. Others carried the early Hawkins, and some of the other models that were out there for the times.
