Default 777 Pellets - between shot regimen

My son was thinking of using my Pursuit LT this Fall. He has been thinking of using 777 pellets as opposed to the Pyrodex I last used in the gun. I understand that cleanup with 777 requires water only, but would be interested to hear from those 777 pellet shooters as to what their between shot cleaning regimen is, both at the range and/or in the field.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Unfortunately only trail and error will show what regiment is required with your Ml and combo. I don't use pellets but I know many who do andregiments vary(some swab, some don't). I have found that pyrodex is more forgiving in this nature as 777 has some fouling issues that may prevent (ie: crud ring) follow up loading.

I know personally with loose 777 for groups I require swabbing between shots. My regiment is a moisten patch with 50% alky and 50% blue washer fluid, run down the bore in short strokes, flipped and repeated. Then follow up with a dry patch down, flipped and down once more. If i don't hear air escaping the nipple while pushing the dry patches I snap a primer before reloading. However in the field I also know that my gun will shoot/load for 2 additional shots without any swabbing if need be but always carry pre soaked patches, etc to do the above regiment as well.

FWIW if using pelletsI would stick with pyrodex, unless the 777 pellets were noticably more consistent/accurate. The positives seem to be balanced with negatives in pellet form of these two subs.

Good Luck

At the range I use Rusty Duck, which I bought a Wal-Mart in the presoaked patches (round, 2"). Squeez excess solvent out of the patch so it is just a bit wet, not soaking. One patch, work the crud ring good at the bottom, trun the patch over and run it down and up a couple of time, then a clean patch to wipe the excess fluid off the inside of the barrel, turn it over and do the same thing. Use another if you fell there is any fluid in there.

In the field I use 1 patch of TC Bore butter, not a lot, run that down and work the crud ring. I don't use a cleaning patch in the field. Most of the time I don't have to reload the gun, so I don't. Usually it is a dead deer within a few feet of where I saw it. Chap Gleason

I just spit patch between shots. Spit on the patch run it down in short strokes then turn over the same patch and run it down again. I use 777 loose 2F. This also works with the pellets.

I use loose 777 and don't typically swab until after the third shot while at the range. The third bullet goes down a little tighter than the first, butit's notdifficult by any means. In the field, I don't swab between the first shot and reload.I've never had a need to.
