Default Oh yaaaaa!

I think I've found what my baby likes. .015 prelubed patch, .495 ball, 100 gr 3f Goex. The first shot was right on Point of Aim and was from a clean cold barrel. Shots 2 & 3 were from a hot fouled but swabbed barrel. Shots 4,5 & 6 were from a fouled but cold barrel. I used the small peep that came with my Lyman peep sight today and the groups reflect that fine sight. All shots were from 50 yds. Group size center to center for 456 is 7/8 ". Not too shabby for old man eye's as my young fell likes to call my glasses.

That 4,5 & 6 is indeed most impressive with open sights. Nice shooting. I think the deer, elk, anything, better move away or they could be in for a world of hurt from that rifle and you. Very nice shooting.

Thanks cayugad. It's funny how they tend to group in different area's with cold and hot barrels. I liked the way that first shot hit bang on exactly where I was aiming. As for being off to the right, I'm lefthanded so I'm pretty sure I'm not pulling the shot. I had a few flash poofs today as well but my sight line never wavered. I am getting better at that. lol

That is very good shooting for open sights at 50 yards. Nice. It is a great feeling to "get a load/bullet/sabot/rifle combination" dial-ed in and >>know<< you can hit with it. I find it very satisfying knowing my rifle is ready to rock. Much more fun than buying CF ammo and shooting it.

Thanks Chapman, I put that fine peep in and it really tightened things up. That, plus I am starting to get used to the flinter. My boy and I shot the .22 and the .177 pellet gun in between cool downs. Even the hot barrel grouped tight, just in a different place. It's all starting to come together. The .015 patches might just be the ticket. They loaded a bit easier than the .018 as well. Still playing, but one thing I know for sure is that the GPR don't shoot conicals worth a hoot.

I have a TC FL and I shot sabots with Speer Gold Dot in it, with between 70 and 80g of 3F Goex BP. I can get 3" groups at 50 yards with it. I like the killing power of the Gold Dots. I have hit a couple of deer at 25 yards with PRB and didn't get them, so I switched to a better penetrating and expanding bullet. I wouldn't give up on the conicals, read what Lyman says they shoot and follow that first. Also ask other GPR shooters what conical they are shooting. Best of luck.

I've read that a 1:60 twist the longest conical that could be stabalized would be .50 approx. ( http://home.insightbb.com/~bspen/ in "A little Math" )
In a .50 cal well a ball is about it. I'm going to get some buffalo ballets and some Keith FN from PR Bullets and try them. both are about 240 - 300 gr in weight.

Mine is a 1:48 twist, so that makes the difference. Chap
