Knight High Pressure Sabots
I recently started using Knight high pressure sabots with 250gr barnes redhot bullets. These suckers are hard to get down the barrel but seem to shoot and kill nicely. Well, I have had the same charge in my gun for almost a week and decided to put it away. I wanted to save the old bullet so I figured I would unload my inline by taking out the breach plug. Man, this thing was in there like welded steel. And after you take the breech plug out and your powder runs all over the place, your screwed. I had to take a old rod and hit it out with a hammer. Just a word to the wise. Just shoot it out, if you use these types.

bigcountry,
What kind of powder were you using?
I ask because the new Triple 7 does this to my breech plug everytime.......regardless of whether or not it has sat for awhile.

Trust God..........but keep your powder dry!

RE: Knight High Pressure Sabots
I'm not so sure bigcountry.
I've loaded some sabots that I practically had to bust a gut to get down the bore (namely the Barnes 300gr MZs) and I didn't have any problem at all with the plug......Also the PRBullet sabots I mostly shoot are extremely tight as well - they are made by MMP, who I think also make the High pressures for Knight as well.
Just off the top of my head, I'd think your problem might be either an overtightened plug, not enough or the wrong type of plug grease, or possibly a moisture issue (or maybe even a combination of 2 or 3 of these). After sitting a week, it might have sucked in a little moisture & coagulated right at the end of the threads & locked things up.
It might be an interesting experiment to shoot about 6 of the Red Hots with High Pressures again and see what the plug does and then shoot 6 more, substituting a standard sabot but keeping everything else the same and see what happens with the plug. That's about the only way I know of to troubleshoot the issue.

RE: Knight High Pressure Sabots
Sorry Mark, I just reread my post. When I said this sucker was in there like welded steel, I meant, the sabot. I had no problem taking out the breech plug. I usually coat that thing good with knight breech grease. Thanks for the reply. I think these HP sabots are meant for 150gr powders or the smokeless jobs. But one think I have noticed. With friends with very loose barrels or ones you can get the projectile down the barrel with ease like my buddy with his traditions, his accuracy is very inconsistent. But with barrels like mine that you got to clean every shot to get these sabots down, accuracy is outstanding. So maybe I shouldn't be complaining.

Aww............."I see" said the blind man <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
Now I'm following you.
You're right in not complaining - in math terms the equation goes something like this: Accuracy of the rifle is directly proportional to the tightness of the sabot.
I wish I had a dollar for every time I've returned from a day at the range with all these little ramrod diameter-sized bruises on my palms........looking like I had been attacked by a giant squid!
A small price to pay (I reckon) for being an "X" killer. <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

BIGCOUNTRY, I USE THE SAME BULLET AS YOU IN .50 CAL KNIGHT, AS DOES MY FRIEND WITH HIS T/C BLACK DIAMOND BOTH USING 100 GRAINS PELLETS. I DONT FIND IT HARD TO GET THE SABOT INTO THE BARREL, BUT I AGREE WITH YOU THEY FLY LIKE DARTS.

Sounds like you have a looser barrel then me Bowhuntercop, wouldn't you say? All I can say, is glad you and your friend likes them. Reason I posted this was to warn people that they have the possibility of being hard to get down or out. Barrels by different manufactures come in all kinds of variations and tolerances.
